MCP2515 TJA1050 CAN Bus SPI Module

The MCP2515 TJA1050 CAN Bus SPI Module lets a microcontroller send and receive data over a CAN network. It combines the MCP2515 stand-alone CAN controller with the TJA1050 high-speed CAN transceiver.

The MCP2515 communicates with the host controller through SPI. Therefore, you can add CAN Bus communication to boards that do not include a built-in CAN controller.

In addition, the module supports CAN 2.0B standard and extended frames. It also supports communication speeds up to 1Mbps when the network wiring and software configuration allow it.

Important Connection Notes

The module normally operates from a 5V supply. Therefore, you can connect it easily to 5V Arduino boards.

However, use a suitable logic-level converter when connecting the SPI pins to 3.3V controllers such as many ESP32 and STM32 boards. This step protects the controller inputs from potentially unsafe 5V logic levels.

Also, install termination resistance only at the two physical ends of the CAN network. If your network already has the required termination, check whether the module allows you to disconnect its onboard 120Ω resistor.
